Insomnia is the inability to get the amount of sleep you need to wake up feeling rested and refreshed. Because different people need different amounts of sleep, insomnia is defined by the quality of your sleep and how you feel after sleeping—not the number of hours you sleep or how quickly you doze off. Even if you’re spending eight hours a night in bed, if you feel drowsy and fatigued during the day, you may be experiencing insomnia. Symptoms of insomnia can include: Difficulty falling asleep even when tired Trouble getting back to sleep (when you have woken in the night) Waking up too early in the morning Relying on sleeping pills or alcohol to fall asleep Not feeling refreshed after sleep Daytime drowsiness Fatigue Irritability Difficulty concentrating Sometimes, insomnia only lasts a few days and goes away on its own. This is especially true when the insomnia is tied to an obvious temporary cause such as stress or a breakup. Chronic insomnia is usually tied to an underlying psychological or medical issue. Those nights I lay there and no matter how tired I am, I just can't fall asleep. It's as though my head touching the pillow actually wakes me up!! I've tried almost everything.. a warm bath, relaxation, no t.v or phone, no caffeine after 7pm, rising early no matter what... The list goes on. Before I know it the birds are chirping the bin man is here and I'm finally falling asleep. Such is life. ~S

Drink Warm Milk A glass of warm milk 15 minutes before going to bed will soothe your nervous system. Milk contains calcium, which works directly on jagged nerves to make them and you relax.

Play some soft, soothing music that will lull you gently off to sleep. There are many CDs designed for that very thing. Some are especially composed music, others simply have rhythmic sounds of waves breaking or the steady pattern of a heartbeat. Some will lead you to sleep with a combination of music, voice and other soothing sounds.
If you have an amazingly relaxing c.d please share so we can all go buy it.
