I can't even walk without mine hurting. It feels as though I'm carrying around two kettle bells when it's really bad. The clinical term for the breast pains I'm sure some of you experience is Mastalgia and did you know there is 2 kinds?
Firstly there is Cyclical breast pain, this is the most common type of breast pain and is linked to the menstrual cycle. Secondly there is Non-cyclical breast pain which is pain in the breasts unrelated to our menstrual cycles.
In this post we will talk about Cyclical pains. The pain will occur at around the same time every month, usually just before the start of your period- the intensity of the pains also kindly fluctuate. (This does improve at the end of your period though) Although cyclical breast pain mainly affect women who are still having periods, some women can experience symptoms after the menopause if they undergo hormone replacement therapy. (HRT)
Cyclical breast pain is not associated with any other breast-related conditions.
Please visit us again next week when I will also be talking about Non-Cyclical breast pains.

Mastalgia revisited #1
Cyclical: breast pain that is part of the normal menstrual cycle. His May cause pain, tenderness, lumpiness and heaviness which can last for a week or so before your period.
Breast pain will affect most women at some point in their lives. In most cases it is thankfully mild and occurs just before your period. For some women-(especially those with PMDD) it is much more severe.
Breast pain DOES NOT increase your risk of Breast Cancer, but it is important to be breast aware and seek medical advice should you notice any changes. A lot of women with breast pain often worry that the pain is caused by cancer...usually, breast cancer first develops with a painless lump so rest assured, pain is not an early symptom but always see your doctor if you have any concerns about your breasts, in particular, a lump in the breast or armpit, abnormal nipple discharge and a change in the appearance or sensation of your nipple.
The causes of Breast pain is still not transparent but research has linked a low level of Gamolenic Acid (GLA) in the body with cyclical pains. Pain can also be associated with starting the contraceptive pill and other medications such as antidepressants and some herbal remedies.
