A number of theories have been suggested to explain PMDD, but the most current theory suggests that cyclic changes in ovarian steroids interact with central neurotransmitters to create symptoms of PMDD. In other words, normal ovarian function rather than hormone imbalance is the inciting factor for PMDD-related biochemical events in the central nervous system. Serotonin is the neurotransmitter most studied in PMDD, although there is likely a role for gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and β-endorphin. Deficiencies of trace elements may also be implicated.
I will continue searching for more information on the dreaded PMDD although there actually doesn't seem to be that much unless I duplicate posts.
Really interested in the final sentence- 'Deficiencies of trace elements may also be implicated' and I will continue to search for more information on this.
